6 Identify instances of disrespect that occurred this week in class.
Count Percentage
An instance of disrespect this week was when the sub tried to get the class' attention and we didnt't listen for the first few times he gave directions. It got much better when we split up into smaller groups but it was hard because he had a really gentle voice and it was hard to hear. 1 5.00%
During our large group discussions people often have side conversations.Even though no disrespect is intented it is disrespectful and we should all work towards stopping it. 1 5.00%
I cannot remember any flagrant disrespect, but there were the usual side conversations during large group discussions, and we were easily sidetracked during some of the small group discussions as well. 1 5.00%
I didn't see any major instances of disrespect this week in class. 1 5.00%
I didn't see many instances of disrespect this week. I felt that as a whole, the class has recognized any problems that we have and have corrected them. 1 5.00%
I feel that their was very little disrespect this week. 1 5.00%
I think that our class may be improving on the side conversations and such, but they are still around. We just need more days like the great discussion we had on Thursday (?). 1 5.00%
In one of my small groups I noticed that there were some people that were very immature and disrespectful. They did not listen to what the rest of us had to say, and they did not seem to care that they were being very disrespectful and immature. 1 5.00%
Maybe during the beginning of the week we weren't listening in big group. Overall I think we were respectful this week. 1 5.00%
Once or twice I have heard curse words in class. I think that they are unnecessary and rude. This is not a huge problem but it bothers me. 1 5.00%
One time this week, we were in small group discussing our quotes and I felt as though we weren't taking them seriously. We kind of goofed off and didn't focus as much as we should have. In the end, we were able to discuss every quote but I felt as thought we didn't take full advantage of our time and we should have. 1 5.00%
random talking, groups felt like no one was really engaged and didnt care about what people were saying. 1 5.00%
Talking out of turn or side-conversations and relatively long time to get under control. 1 5.00%
Talking over each other and Mr. O'leary seemed to be a problem once again. We still continue to talk after Mr. O tells us to stop. 1 5.00%
The only instances of disrespect that I can think of are very minor. Occasionally a student would talk over another student, but it was always unintentional. 1 5.00%
There really wasn't much disrespect in class this week. There were some small side conversations but as far as I know, they were all in topic with the class. Over all, it was a great week. 1 5.00%
There were a few side conversations during discussions, but overall i felt we were respectful this week. 1 5.00%
This is the most disrespect I have observed in one week's span all year. I think the increase in disrespect is due to the increase in interest and 'epiphanies' that are occurring in class. I know it's just the excitement of realizing something in The Scarlet Letter or some random idea that sprouts from our discussions. It's great to see the enthusiasm, but I think it can continue with a little more overall respect. 1 5.00%
This is what I don't understand: isn't everything you do disrespectful to someone? Is Mr. O'Leary asking for a universal disrespectful act? I'm being ornery. 1 5.00%
When we were having our great large group dicussion and paople were interrupting each other it seemed somewhat disrespectful. When we did the catachresis excercise some of the groups were disrespctful when they made fun of the other group. Whn we did small group discussions and people were very tired of thursday it seemed somewhat disrespectful when they did the minimum effort in the discussion. 1 5.00%

Caroline made a connection and everyone was praising her 1 5.00%
During the big group discussions on Thursday and Friday everyone was very respectful, even though we sometimes had conflicting views. Though we disagreed, we shared our ideas respectfully. I feel that getting into an argument can be respectful to the author, because we are getting very into the book. 1 5.00%
Everyone listened very well to each other during our excellent pithy quote and large group discussions this week. 1 5.00%
I feel that our class does an excellent job of respecting that we all have different opinions. I am proud that we can have a heated discussion and have it not turn into an argument. 1 5.00%
I feel that we were becoming more respectful of each other in large group. The side conversations seem to be quieting down. 1 5.00%
I felt that the small group discussions have become more and more respectful. 1 5.00%
I found that in small groups everyone was very resepctful toward one another. We all listened and let people talk one at atime and had great discussions. We also had passion in our discussions and while we disagreed w did it respectfully. 1 5.00%
I noticed we seem to be raising our hand more. It really doesn't matter to me whether people raise their hand or not to talk, just as long as they don't interrupt. I think it was good they didn't interupt, but it also was annoying because you might have something to say right after someone brought something up and not be heard because you have to wait your turn to be called on. 1 5.00%
I think that one of the greatest instances of respect occur when two people with different opinions are able to discuss each side of the argument while maintaining a respectful attitude. i felt that we were able to do this in our pithy group discussions this week and was glad to see such accepting and well debated discussions. 1 5.00%
i was impressed with lauren houlihan this week for being open and nice and pleasant all the time. 1 5.00%
In our great large group discussion I found it very respectful when people waited and raised their hands and listened so well to each other. When it was their turn and they said something about what the other people said that they built upon I though it was very respectful that they listened and thought about what their classmates said. 1 5.00%
One day we were having a good discussion in large group and I thought that there were several times when we respected each other. We were able to respect each other's opinions, even though we sometimes disagreed with each other. Also, even though we would all talk at once sometimes, we were able to come back and listen to one person when they started talking. 1 5.00%
Our discussion as a class on Rev. Dimmunsdale and Roger Chillingworth was respectful. I could see words frothing at each student's mouth but no one gave in to caveman-like shouting. It was a civilized yet successful conversatino, something that I don't see often. 1 5.00%
This past week I saw a couple of instances where students complimented other students for their work, whether it was the pithy quotes or the preposition packets. The vibe from the class right now is inspiring and I hope that it continues the way it has been going. 1 5.00%
This week there were few times when I witnessed side conversations. I think everyone was really into the conversation at hand and so there was no need for offtopic sidenotes. 1 5.00%
This week was a huge improvement in class as far as class discussions went. I think this was a result of graph you showed us in class. It made us all aware of our attitude and respect levels, which also made us aware of everything we were doing in class. 1 5.00%
This week, especially on Thursday, I thought that we did a good job in large group discussions. While there were still some side conversations, overall we did a good job. 1 5.00%
Thursday's discussion was very respectful. There were disagreements, but everyone respected the fact that someone else might not agree with them. 1 5.00%
When the sub was teaching the class on Monday, it seemed like everyone was very open and helpful. Instead of being rude and taking advantage of him, we had some meaningful discussions about the book. 1 5.00%
When we had a substitute earlier in the week, everyone tried to stay on task, and didn't make his job difficult for him. 1 5.00%
8 What went well in class this week?
Count Percentage
As I said above, the large group discussion went very well. From one group's pithy quote, we generated a long discussion about the characters in The Scarlet Letter. It was the first discussion that involved the whole class sharing their thoughts and ideas. 1 5.00%
Discussions went incredibly well in class this week. I really felt that we were finally reaching a different level of discussion that enabled us to appreciate each other more. 1 5.00%
I enjoyed my group's discussion on sin. It started with a heated argument over whether Roger Chillingworth was a bad person and then evolved into a spastic shouting match (on which we were all on the same side but ranting at each other). I've decided that if we cannot advance without sin, how is it so bad? 1 5.00%
I enjoyed our small group discussions this week for two reasons. First we had good discussions and it was interesting to hear how people interpreted the reading. And second because of how we line up to split into small groups. It is an interesting way to learn about people and find stuff out that you would otherwise never know. 1 5.00%
I really liked the activity we did with catachresis. It taught me how to identify and use the literary device, and some of the examples were very funny. 1 5.00%
i still feel like i get a lot out of reading and discussing the sample AP prompt responses. it gives me more insight into what i can change about my own writing. 1 5.00%
I think that the pithy quotes went extremely well this week. We had an amazing discussion on Thursday (?) about the book The Scarlet Letter, trigger by a groups pithy quote. I was enthralled by the discussion and egar to hear everyone's opinion on the 3 main characters and their roles. 1 5.00%
I thought that the large group discussions went really well. We had an excellent debate about Rev. Dimmesdale and then moved on to other things. We all made good connections and built off of each other's ideas. 1 5.00%
reading was good. 1 5.00%
Small groups went well this week. 1 5.00%
The day that Mr. O'Leary was out went well only because the sub ended giving us some extra time the small pithy quote discussions. During those groups we got to expand on some of our thoughts and come up with some intriguing ideas of what would come of Hester Prynne and the entire community in the novel. 1 5.00%
The discussion on Thursday went very well. 1 5.00%
The group discussion on Thursday went extremely well. As a whole we were shooting out epiphanies and aphorisms left and right. I thought that was the best class that we have had had yet this year. I was very impressed with the level of participation by everyone in the class. Good job everyone! 1 5.00%
The large group and small discussions went well this week. They were respectful and animated and I feel like I learned a lot from them. I think they might have been the best large group discussions yet! 1 5.00%
The large group conversation that we had on Thursday was great! If felt like freshman year again. I can't speak for last years class because I wasn't in it, but I know that these sort conversation were the norm two years ago. I thought that maybe the reason for our lull was the new combination of kids, but I now know that that isn't the problem. 1 5.00%
The large group discussion on Thursday was awesome 1 5.00%
The large group discussions went really well, especially on Thursday. It was the first time we really got excited about what we're reading. The discussion about the field trip as well as the field trip itself went well. I fell like I learned a lot about Emerson especially. 1 5.00%
The small group discussion that my group had on Friday went very well. We discussed not only our pithy quotes, but the characters as well. This made the discussion more engaging. 1 5.00%
This was a great week. It seemed like everyone was really on the ball and ready to go with their pithy quotes. I love the large group 'debate' format - even if we aren't arguing its good to be able to discuss our ideas passionately with the whole class. 1 5.00%
This week I really enjoyed doing the preposition excercises and then being called on to correct them by MR. O'S ALLPOWERFUL DIGITAL PILOT RANDOMIZER. Also, i enjoyed the calss discussions because they were very eventful in the way of great ideas and breaktrhoughs. Each argument was filled with beauty and dense content. 1 5.00%
9 What could have gone better?
Count Percentage
As I said earlier, the class went very well this week. I honestly can think of nothing to say in this category. 1 5.26%
Aside from the one day when we didn't focus as well as we could have in small group, I felt that the week went well and there wasn't anything that could have gone better. 1 5.26%
Basically everything we did this week went well. I can't think of anything that could have gone better off the top of my head. 1 5.26%
Everything was good this week but if I must force myself to reveal one fault it would have to be a few small group discussions.I know it wasn't just my group because everyone said they felt the conversations were a bit flat but a few times we just didn't seem to have much to talk about. There were hot and cold streaks and we ended the week on a very good note. 1 5.26%
I can't really think of anything for this week. Overall I felt that we had an excellent week. 1 5.26%
I felt that all of the activities in class went well this week. 1 5.26%
I think our small group discussions could have done a little better. My groups just seemed a little tired and not as egar to share quotes. This might have been that we had written these pithy quotes a few days before and they weren't fresh on our minds. I kept wanting to discuss the chapters we had just read. 1 5.26%
I think that they small group discussions could have gone better. We seem to have hit a wall, and small group discussions rarely have the intensity and power that they once did. Overall the week was intesting, but many small group discussions were sill lackluster. 1 5.26%
I was out of school on Thursday, and it sounds like I missed a great discussion. I wish I had been there. 1 5.26%
I wish we got this survey sent out before Saturday evening. I wanted to get all my homework done before Sunday, but was unable to do this survey. Maybe it could be linked to the site so we don't have to wait to get it e-mailed. 1 5.26%
I would have liked it better if we could have spent more time in large groups. Especially on friday we had a great large group discussion and I think we could benefit from more of that. 1 5.26%
it feels like the pithy quote dicussions are losing people;'s intrest, so no one cares. 1 5.26%
It would have been better to have read the AP essyas at home to get an idea of what the writers were trying to say. Personally, their writing was beyond frustrating and I got very sidetracked trying to figure out their scribbles. If I had had more time (such as at home) I would have deciphered and then tried to find the meaning on my own. PS - I have very bad handwriting. 1 5.26%
On the whole the large group conversations seem to be less than enthusiastic. The way that we acted on Thursday proved that we can still have good conversations like years past. 1 5.26%
Small group discussions on Thursday felt a little awkward. I think we should go over pithies the following day, otherwise you really lose your passion and can't remember where you were going on it. 1 5.26%
Some of the small groups could have gone better. 1 5.26%
sometimes i feel like our small group discussions get cut off before we have finished. while i enjoy the large group, i would like to have more time in the small groups to discuss pithy quotes. 1 5.26%
The prepostions could have gone better this past week for me personally. Missing Thursday's class seemed to hinder my performance and I found myself ill-prepared for Friday's quiz on the prepositions. Luckily I won't be missing any more classes that I know of which will help me stay up to date. 1 5.26%
The small group discussions could have gone better - it seemed like we did not get much done in them. 1 5.26%

Charlie impressed me this week. He was very opinionated during our group discussion of The Scarlet Letter and helped me to think in a different mindset. 1 5.00%
Charlie inspired me this week. He always defends his opinions, and doesn't care when no one else agrees with him. He also seems to know a lot about the Puritans and their way of life, and is able to make good connections and conclusions through his knowledge. 1 5.00%
Chloe really inspired me this week with her upbeat attitude and interesting insights into our reading. she has unique interpretations and i love listening to her ideas. 1 5.00%
I was impressed this week by Sam McIntire and Kelsey Liebenson-Morse. I was in a small group with them and we had a great discussion. Even though there were only three of us, we were able to have an interesting conversation. Sam and Kelsey inspired me to bring more than just my pithy quote to the small group discussions. 1 5.00%
I was inspired this week by Alex Crocker. It might have been Alex, I'm not sure. Actually, I don't think it was Alex Crocker. Anyway, somebody told me at the beginning of this week about a way to look at prepositional senteces and understand them. He or she said to peel away all the unneeded junk until all you have is the basic sentence. All those fragments of unneeded junk are prepostional phrases. Thanks to Alex, even if it wasn't her. 1 5.00%
I was inspired this week ny Lauren Houlihan. On Friday she was very passionate with her discussion and started a great large discussion about the Scarlet Letter. We could use more people like her. 1 5.00%
Lauren Houlihan impressed me this week because during the discussion on Thursday she constantly had valid and interesting things to say, and she was very involved with the discussion. She was in my small group during the week too, and she impressed me then too, because she is not afraid to speak her mind or to make connections. Good job! 1 5.00%
Lauren Houlihan impressed me this week with her contributions to the large group discussions. She was always very involved and got animated when she was talking. I think it shows that she is enjoying the book, to some degree, and is not afraid of sharing her thoughts with the whole class. 1 5.00%
Lauren Houlihan inspired me this past week. She works really hard on her assignments and is always ready to defend her point of view. There are several things that I disagree with her about but she always has good reasons to back up her beliefs. She is not afraid to think differently and is able to justify opinions. 1 5.00%
Lauren Houlihan inspired me this week with her participation the the large group discussions when she talked about how she could not believe how Dimmesdale was acting and not taking any responsibility or standing up for Hester and Pearl. I think that she really thought about what she was going to say and she helped to start the great large group discussion with her opinion. 1 5.00%
Lauren Houlihan inspired me this week. Lauren seemed to head our class's amazing dicussion about the main characters. She wasn't afaid to let us know her opinion about Dimmesdale. I really admired her enthusiam and passion. 1 5.00%
Lauren Houlihan was a great inspiration this past week in class. As we discussed the pithy quotes and literary devices from chapter 9 and 10 of The Scarlet Letter, Lauren made a statement even though it was the opposite opinion of almost everyone else in the class. She thought that Chillingworth was an interesting character and was a kind man that was just put in a bad situation by his much younger wife. I felt it took a great deal of confidence to make that statement because it contradicted everyone else's opinion of Chillingworth. 1 5.00%
Lauren really inspired me this week with her enthusiasm for The Scarlet Letter. In the big group discussions she is really passionate about the characters and isn't afraid to speak her mind. Whether I agreed or disagreed with her, she made me want to speak up also and share my ideas. She is an inspiring and important member of our class. 1 5.00%
michael broder. he was in one of my pithy wuote groups and it was the only good one all week, and i consistently have good conversations whenever broder's there. 1 5.00%
Michelle Russel inspired me this week with the effort that she puts into her pithy quotes. When I saw that she not only did one literary device, but two, because she couldn't choose which to write about. This made me realize how enthusiastic she is about the subject. 1 5.00%
Ryan Fotter impressed me this week. His light-heartedness is an important asset to this class, and he continues to amaze me everyday. 1 5.00%
Sam Bond inspired me this week. Instead of doing the traditional pithy quote as her homework assignment, she broke the mold and decided to draw a picture! I thought that the picture she drew was excellent, and she made great connections between it and the reading. 1 5.00%
Shannon Peters impressed me this week. I was in her group many times and each time she had something interesting and original to contribute. She was also very good at finding specific quotes in the text which helped us to have better discussions. I really look forward to working with her again. 1 5.00%
Someone who has inspired me this week was Sam Bond. She shared her drawing with us during our small group discussion and kept drawing similarities between her seemingly simple picture and the complex plot and insights into The Scarlet Letter. I congradulate Sam for the ability to think, plan out and incorperate all these things into her drawing. SIMPLY RIVETTING 1 5.00%
When we were doing the catachresises Houlihan's group was amazing, they really went all out where our group just kinda of gunned it. 1 5.00%
