| If you know of any, please share reasons that Mr. O'Leary should use this survey his next classes. | |
He should use this survey because it helps students think about what happened in class during the week, and decide how to make the next week better. Our discussions about the surveys also helped me get to know Mr. O better.
1 |
I liked the praise pragraph. It was a nice way to start of Mondays. The survey overall worked as a really good way to look at the larger picture of the course, not just what happened each day.
1 |
I think it helps the students decompress the thoughts and feelings about the previous week and funnel it into a survey.
1 |
I think it would be good feedback for Mr. O, himself...
1 |
I think that the praise paragraphs help make a class closer, to some extent, but that for the majority of the class I sort of half-heartedly did the surveys, instead of spending a lot of time on them. I think that you should be careful to keep the surveys very relevant and maybe change the questions around more to make it more interesting.
1 |
I think the praise paragraphs were a great addition to class. And if these survey's help Mr. O to make the class better than I can see no reason for not using them with future classes.
1 |
It is a fun and colorful but yet private way to reflect on what is important in the class. There is no pressure and I like this type of thing in general. I liked how it was not every single week because it gave me more to talk about.Oh also it is easy to do!
1 |
It is an effective way of showing changes, such as attitude, or pace of the course, especially when it is shown on a graph.
1 |
It is less formal and therefore easier and better than the original DLP.
1 |
It is really good to be able to give feedback in an individual way, so that it you ahve somthing disagreeable to say or want to say you are really enjoying something it is a great nonpersonal way to get that information out there.
1 |
It is so much better than writing a DLP and handing it in. This way is much less formal and is more relaxing.
1 |
It's a great way to make weekly updates on how everyone thinks the class is going. It's great to get them e-mailed to everyone so the whole class knows how everyone feels. The fact that Mr. O does these surveys to see how he is doing as a teacher really shows me that he cares about his students and wants them to have the best class possible.

The survey helps identify problems the class is having and allows us to fix them together.
1 |
The surveys are a fun way for us to express our opinions on the class. I think that it's really important that we give Mr. O feedback, and it seems to me that the surveys are a good way to do that.
1 |
The surveys are fun to answer, and it is very informative and interesting (and sometimes entertaining) to read other people's responses.
1 |
This survery enables everyone to know how they feel about the class and whether the pace is too fast for some students.
1 |
| If you know of any, please share reasons why Mr. O'Leary should not use weekly surveys with his next classes. | |
I often found myself making up answers just to fill in the blanks, or that it was the same answer everytime for every survey.
1 |
I think he should absolutely. It might be an issue because not all people feel comfortable with the computer but i liked it!
1 |
I think it could become a tiresome activity and not have much meaning after a while. Some students may not take seriously after doing it every weekend.
1 |
I think that many people do not necessarily have feedback to give on some weeks. It might be a good idea to make each section on the survey optional, so that if a student doesn't want to fill out one section he can skip it.
1 |
I think that the only reason not to use a survey would be because it is not productive. I think that in some instances, the surveys did not give me anything useful, and I'm not sure what they gave you. If you do do surveys next year, spice them up somehow.
1 |
It can sometimes be hard to answer the questions, especially when it's not anonymous...
1 |
It can sometimes be hard to have a response to everyone question, but it was much better once you took the 'respect' questions out.
1 |
It could sometimes be awkward if someone didn't get any praise or if someone got a lot of praise.

1 |
Some people can't always get onto the internet. Everybody seems to misspell everything when they type on here.
1 |
Sometimes they do not seem so important and can make an issue that it not very big seem important. such as when people wrote about talking while others were talking as being rude, since it was the worst theing that had happened, while it was not really that important. It was just that they needed someting to fill in that box.
1 |
The only problem with the survey I can think of is that it can add to a very busy weekend. Also, some people seemed to be digging around for responses to fill the survey, rather than being truthful, either because they didn't want to take the time, or because they couldn't think of anything.
1 |
They can stir up unwanted problems.
1 |
Well, if someone misses an email, then she will not be able to fill out a survey, which might impact her grade badly. Also, if a student is EXTREMELY busy, filling out a survey could be a hassle.

| Please share the ways the weekly feedback survey improved your ability to use knowledge. | |
| Count | |
I had to reflect back on the week and really think about what happened.
1 |
I had to think about what I had learned and observed, rather than completely forgetting my past week like I usually do.
1 |
I like surveys because you can say exactly what you feel, and Mr. O takes into account what the students have to say.
1 |
I really don't think it did.
1 |
I think it helped transfer what I learned onto paper, because after a while, I might forget what we did earlier in the year. That is why weekly surveys were effective.
1 |
I think that the survey improved my ability to use knowledge, because I took a week's worth of information, ground it up, made it into a nice compact pellet, and typed it into the box. This process helped me determine what knowledge was relevant and what was not.
1 |
I was able to use the grammar that I learned in the survey to express what I learned in class.
1 |
I'm not quite sure at the moment. It made me think about what I had learned in the past week and how important that is.
1 |
If I remembered, I would look for someone that did something inspiring or impressive so that I could write it down for the next survey. Oftentimes I would have to reflect on the past couple of weeks to think about the workload, the respect levels, and other aspects of the class.
1 |
It helped me because it was a way which i could take time off from the busy obstacles of life and just think about what i have done and how the class is. The feedback i gave was mostly positive and so, therefore, my reflections were mostly delights.
1 |
It helped me look back on what I had learned in the past week, rather than just forgetting it completely.
1 |
It made me pay more attention in class so I would have something to contribute to the survey.
1 |
It was a very good tool for relfection. Sometimes I would have too much going on in my head but the survey helped me to look back and figure out what was important.
1 |
The survey taught me how to keep important things in mind for the end of the week. I found that at the beginning of the class, I had a hard time looking back on the past week and picking out important details to the mention. Now, however, it's no problem!
1 |
They helped me to reflect back on what I learned, and to realize what I was learning.
1 |
Well, I had to know what I was talking about; I had to be able to make coherent sentences.
1 |
Wellll, the surveys forced me to think about what I had learned over the previous weeks, and then write about it. Sometimes I would use the grammar that we learned, so that's another way I used knowledge.
1 |
| Please share the ways the weekly feedback survey improved your ability to communicate. | |
Having to write something, and just being able to write about what I thought had happened in class was another chance to communicate. That must have helped somehow, in making my communication better.
1 |
I found over time that these surveys didn't need to be really formal, and that they were a great way to express your feelings about the class, whether good or bad . |
1 |
I had to make good praise paragraphs because they would be read aloud. I also had to be able to communicate what I was thinking.
1 |
I learned to shorten my sentences from 30 words down to 5 0r 6.
1 |
Instead of droning on, as I may have done at the beginning of the year, I now am able to say what i want to in a single sentence.
1 |
It helped me because it was anonymous when other people were reading them so I said some things that i really felt that i might not say in person, but which were important.
1 |
It helped me express my self through writing as well as made it easier for me to praise my peers for a inspirational actions.
1 |
It made me feel like I had a place to share my ideas and concerns that would get heard.
1 |
It was good practice to have to vocalize how you felt about the class in general, and look back on what you did.
1 |
The survey helped me feel open in talking to Mr. O and my classmates, because I felt that I got to know them better.
1 |
The survey helped me learn to express my thoughts and ideas in a constructive and intelligible manner.
1 |
The survey required me to cite individual things, which helped my ability to communicate my ideas to a group.
1 |
The surveys allowed me to express how I feel about the class itself and about what was going on in class. I don't know of any other class where I have been able to do that.
1 |
The surveys informed me about how other people felt about the class, so that I could interact more fairly. They helped me learn to express myself in as few words as possible.
1 |
This survey helped me communicate because I had to get past the fact that it wasn't anonymous and that Mr. O would know what I thought about something personally.
1 |
This survey was another way for us to voice our opinions.
1 |
We were able to communicate without being judged and were more likely to be more honest.
1 |
| Please share the ways the weekly feedback survey improved your ability to solve problems. | |
After reflecting on past events, I was able to come to conclusions about what had to be done. I guess it taught me to reflect on all of the information, and then come to a conclusion.
1 |
Again, sometimes I would have too much going on in my head and the survey would help me to figure out on my own what was important. Also, I would realize what could have gone better and make try to improve it next week.
1 |
During in-class discussions of the survey (we had a few of these), I think all of our problem-solving abilities were improved, because the class was forced to come up with original solutions to problems that they had.
1 |
I can't really think of any way that the survey improved my problem solving skills, though perhaps it made me complain and whine more, if that counts.
1 |
I don't feel that it did, really. However the course itself did so it's all good.
1 |
I don't think it did.
1 |
I had to be decisive about how much I wanted to include in the survey, thus enhancing my Decison Making skills.
1 |
If there was a problem in class, then it was a chance to wirte about it to increase the awareness that it existed and then could be solved.
1 |
It created a place for us to address our concerns with the class and made it easy to present ideas to fix things.
1 |
It didn't help me solve problems better.
1 |

1 |
Solve problems... The survey helped me learn how to use my words wisely and solve the problem when I didn't know what to say.
1 |
The survey was an excellent way to express if I had a problem. It gave all of the students a way to keep in touch with Mr.O or to say that they felt that they were being left behind in terms of classwork.
1 |
The surveys helped me look back on what went well and what didn't, and think about how to improve things with a more balanced point of view, seing both the good and the bad.
1 |
Ummmm, I don't think it did. Obviously, it was good to know what other people thought about our 'problems,' but I don't think I actually learned anything from simply taking the surveys.
1 |
When I write a lot of times I just write what i think without restriting it and so everything i have said is what i feel because my mind created it. Upon looking back at my feelings, it is a good way to sort out things i have done or things other people have done that I do not particularly like and this is a good way to do so and to improve myself and others.
1 |
When we discovered that repect was a problem in our class, we immediately fixed the problem as a group.
1 |
| Please share the ways the weekly feedback survey improved your respect for yourself and others. | |
By hearing others opinions and ideas I respected them more and more.
1 |
Every time we did a survey, we would have to write down someone in the class that inspired us. This forced us to look for and find respect in many students in the class.
1 |
I learn to respect my peers because in order to write about them I really had to pay attention to them on a deeper level.
1 |
I liked getting praised, and I think that looking for unique ways to praise people made me repect the little things they did more.
1 |
I liked hearing the praise paragraphs because I would realize aspects about people that I never knew.
1 |
It helped me realize how important it is to be a good listener in class, and I tried to incoroparte that into class each day.
1 |
It helped me to resepct others because it shows all of their inner feelingings , some that they also share out loud and some that they reserve for only written words. Just like me, what my classmates have said ae how they feel and what is in their mind and so it helps me to relate to them and respect them and what is important to them.
1 |
It made me pay more attention to the other people in class, doing things that earned respect, so that I would ahve someone to write about.
1 |
It was nice to have kudos, and it was nice to give them to others.
1 |
Knowing what other people thought about certain issues was neat - other than that I can't say that my respect for myself or others was really improved . |
1 |
The part for a person who impressed you was great. This way you pay attention to other people and gain respect for them.
1 |
The praise paragraphs made us come up with reasons why we respected another person. The winter survey that had the thing about something we were proud about made me improve respect for myself.
1 |
The praise paragraphs were good, because they showed that I am noticed by and affect other people. The only problem with kudos is that some people never got any, which I am sure did not help improve their self-esteem.
1 |
The praise section especially helped me improve my respect for others because it would help me to realize just what an awesome job they did. Also, in seeing what went well, I was able to realize what a good job I did over the past week, which increased my respect for myself.
1 |
The surveys allowed me to read other people's opinions and compare them to my own. It helped me to accept what others thought and respect that.
1 |
The surveys made me more aware in class to deal out respect in order to receive respect from my fellow students. The survey helped that aspect of class improve the most.
1 |
We all had to trust eachother when we wrote things, since we knew they would be read out loud. This made me feel safe, since I knew the whole class respected the surveys.
1 |
| Please share the ways the weekly feedback survey improved your ability to contribute to the school and/or community. | |
Going over the surveys helped me remember to be respectful to others when they are speaking, which I have brought to other parts of my school day.
1 |
I don't know about the school, but it was differently a nice way to contribute to the class. I always knew that I could say what I wanted to about the class here and it would be taken into account.
1 |
I don't think the survey did anything for my ability to contribute to the school and or community... I mean, it's just a survey after all.
1 |
I'm not sure that it really did, except to make me more aware of the class and what to focus on.
1 |
It did not help me contribute to school/community.
1 |
It gave me a place to share my ideas and concerns. By having this in this class, it helps me know how to share my concerns in other classes or the community.
1 |
It helped me to be able to write objectivly about what was happening in class. That is an importatn thing to be able to do for the school or the community.
1 |
Knowing that I helped out a teacher by giving him a student's perspective I guess is a way of contributing to the school.
1 |
Like i said before, it did not much help me contribute to the community because I keep that separate from school but it creates a stronger bond between me and my fellow classmates and made a more lively enthusiasm for the class.
1 |
Seems kind of obvious.... I was able to contribute to the community by sharing my thoughts with Mr. O and the class! It's nice to have your voice heard and accepted in the community.
1 |
The praise paragraph allowed me to contribute positive feedback about students in the class.
1 |
The surveys helped me to give back to the school because it encouraged me to let other teachers know if I thought the pace of their teaching was too much for our class. It also helped me to learn to let a teacher know if I didn't understnad something becuase of their teaching style.
1 |
This is another one where the survey didn't do anything for me, but I don't think it could have anyway.
1 |
Uh. N/A?
1 |
Wow... this is the hardest one for me to answer. I really couldn't tell you.
1 |
| Please share whether you would like to take regular feedback surveys in your other classes. Please indicate why or why not. | |
Every once in a while I would like to do a survey in my other classes to talk about what is going well, and what isn't. Also I'd get to see how everyone else in the class felt. However, the questions about who impressed me, in other classes may be hard because I don't have the relationship with my classmates in other classes like I do in this class.
1 |
I do not think I would just because it is hard to find time for me to get on the internet every weekends. Also, sometimes they are really hard for me to answer (especially this one). I think they are good for the teacher to hear the feedback and don't mind helping them out, but maybe a different format would be easier to access.
1 |
I do not think that I need the feedback surveys in other classes because they are not English classes. English class is all about communication through words for obviously the feedback works. In other classes the subjects are centered around numbers or history, subjects that do not need regular evaluation. Surveys in other subject would just be a hassle.
1 |
I dont think all classes should take the survey because there are not as many things to discuss through communcation with other students. I think it makes sense for us to because we are constantly communicating with one another but not all of my classes are like this. In fact, none of my classes are as communicative as this one and that is why more happens and it therefore deserves a survey over all other classes.
1 |
I think it is a good thing for english, but it seems that there would be much less to say in another class, such as a foreign language or math, where there is not that much to write about that the class is doing. I can just imagine write praise paragraphs about someing who solved the math problem the quickest, it doesn't seem as good as it was this year for english.
1 |
I think probably not, because it would just get too repetitive. Perhaps if the questions in the surveys were different every time, then I could find more variety in my responses.
1 |
I would like them, because they help bring the class together and improve it. They also make the teacher seems more relatable because he is willing to get advice as well as give it.
1 |
I would like to, but I think that if I had to complete a survey every weekend for each class, it would become a bit of a pain. I don't mind one at all - but four surveys seems like a bit much. I really like the idea of the survey in English class, but I think it is a bad idea to encourage all teachers in the school to adopt the survey technique.
1 |
I would LOVE them because it would allow me to let teachers know how I feel about their teaching, which is difficult to do politely in any other format.
1 |
I wouldn't really because some of the kids in my other classes are too immature to handle things like this; it would be one big colossal joke to them.
1 |
No, because taking four of these beasts a week would probably kill me.
1 |
No, only because most other classes don't focus on the same particular skills this class did. It would seem akward to take a survey in a class other than English.
1 |
Probably not. I like taking them for this class because I am comfortable with the people. I think it would be a little UNcomfortable to do these in a normal class of a group of random people. I also think that in a not-an-honors class, people might not fill it out, or be truthful in their responses.
1 |
Sometimes, when I have a problem that it's hard to bring up to the whole class, a survey would be nice. But they are hard to remember to do over the weekend, and to have 4 to do would be difficult.
1 |
Yes, because they are a good reflective tool.
1 |
Yes, I would. They are a way for the student to directly affect the way that they are being taught and that is empowering.
1 |
Yes, they bring about a nice sense of community and trust.
1 |
