A lot of people were talking out of order during the title page discussion last friday.

During the activity we did on Friday, everyone was giving michelle compliments because it was her birthday. Sam Bond said that she was a really nice person and she couldn't stop smiling when she was around her and i made a snide comment about it being a good pick-up line. Mr. Oleary quickly redirected me and i realized that the purpose of the circle was not for sarcasm and i was being rude. I wasn't trying to embarrass anyone and Sam took it well but I risked a trust that is vital to this class.

I can't think of any instances of disrespect that occurred in class this week.

I didn't see any new kinds of disrespet this week in class, other than the usual not listenting in large group discussions.

I found it disrespectful this week when people seemed not to be paying attenton when others were talking to the class as a large group. A few times when someone was talking some kids would be having side conversations on their own.

I think that our class was disrespectful during the trust activity outside. When Mr. O'Leary was talking about what we should do, we went ahead without him saying that we should do the exercise yet. This wasn't meanful disrespect. It was just what we were used to doing because in both previuos English classes we have been taught to do things by ourselves. That is the resason we took charge during the trust activity.

I thought the our discussions were rather disrespectful. We would talk out of turn and we wouldn't raise our hands. We ended up interrupting each other.

Many of us are still having side conversations during big group discussions. We are a very talkative class, but need to focus this quality on the discussion at hand.

People still talk in big group while other people were sharing their ideas.

Some talking while others were talking, random rude comments, hateful compliments or whatnot

THe only instance of disrespect that i noticed this week was Mr. O'Leary's reaction to Ben's object from nature. i felt that it was unfair to single someone out like that for putting extra effort into something.

The reason that I put a 4 for lrespect shown to the class by Mr. O'Learyl was that I noticed that at a few points in the class, students had something to say, but Mr. O'Leary was talking and they couldn't get their words in. I really don't think this is intentional, just a case of miscommunication where two people want to talk at once and don't realize that there is another person who has something to say.

There was a little bit of disrepect shown during the parallism lecture. I don't believe people meant to be disrespectful, but there were a couple murmors going around occasionally and a lot of 'spacing out'.

There was disrespect when we got too loud, when we talked over each other in large group discussions, when we had side conversations during large group discussions, and when we didn't listen to Mr. O'Leary's directions during the outside activity. It was also kind of disrespectful when we all got up to look at Ben's natural object in the middle of our discussion.

There were many little signs of disrepect during this past week of class.  Most of them occurred when someone was talking while others were speaking.  None of them were blatant.  Usually the person interrupting was producing one of their own ideas, but didn't realize someone else was speaking at that point in time.  There were a couple other instances of people just not knowing the sensitivity of others and that caused some feelings of disrepect by those who received it.

Too much talking as usual, occasional talking over.  Just the normal chatter that needs to cease.

We still need to work on being quieter and listening to Mr. O'leary when he asks us to be quiet.  People were being slightly disrespectful during the activity with the truths from nature because sometimes a person's translation of what an object meant was laughed at or made fun of.

While people are trying to talk there are a lot of side conversations that go on. Most of the time they are about the assignment or the reading but they are still disrespectful.

Everyone in class is very respectful of other people's opinions. Even though we constantly disagree we respect that the other people in class are entitled to their own thoughts.

everyone paid attention really well during the discussions of our objects from nature and listened to each other's thoughts. i also felt that the compliment circle was a great example of respect.

Everyone was respectful during the compliment circle activity that we did on Thursday. This was an akward experiance and it could have been made more uncomfortable if we were not respectful of the opinions being shared.

Everyone was very positive in the activities that we attempted.  Whenever we had large group discussions, like about the covers, we were open-minded about the message the student was trying to get across.

Everyone was very receptive and appreciative of the ideas that were brought up in class, especially during the natural object presentations.

Everyone was very respectful of everyone else during the natural objects activity (except when we all got up to look at Ben's tree). I felt like everyone was really listening and trying to understand what other people were saying.

I think the praise activity showed complete respect this week. Of course it was meant to respect the people in the middle, but I was very impressed with the things some of the students came up with. I was also impressed with the number of students that came up with different things. I thought people would be more shy about it.

I thought it was very nice how we all were quiet during the nature activity. It took a long time to go all around the circle and I was glad that we all paid attention throughout the entire activity.

I thought that the Respect Circle was, naturally, very respectful and complimentary, and that there was also a high level of repect this week.  Everyone seemed to listen to everyone else's ideas, and overall we seemed to get along very well as a class this week.

I thought the outside activity we had was the best instance of respect. Everyone had something to say about someone who was in the circle.

I was surprised by the amount of respect that most people in the class showed during the 'praise circle' exercise. The comments taht everyone had for each other were very truthful, and most peoplelistened to each other's comments appreciateively.

I witnessed many instances of respect this week. We devoted an entire group discussion to compliments and people explained why they respect each new person. Noone spoke out of turn for the most part and we had no quarrelling. My favorite instance of respect was when Michelle complimented Amelia because they are pretty close and they opened the door to their relationship in front of the whole class. Michelle told Amelia that she was a very good friend and that under the surface she is a very lovely and interesting person and i beleive that she knows this more than anyone else in the class, due to their friendship.

The circle, I enjoyed being praised, clapping after covers

The class as a whole is always respectful to one another about conversing during small group discussions.  It seems we all have a high level of respect and admiration for one another which makes for a nice environment most of the time.

The covers activity was especially respectful. Everyone was encouraging about each other's work. Most people went beyond the limit by pointing out ideas in the pictures that were obviously not meant by the artist themselves. I liked hearing everyone's ideas.

The outdoor respect activity was obviously respectful, as it was meant to be.

The praise circle was very respectful, everyone listened and really thought about what they were going to say.

We were all very respectful during our 'circle time' outside on Thursday. We gave each other good compliments (most of the time) andf all had fun doing it.

Discussing our summer assignment covers really allowed us to see more of what the people in class are like. Seeing what people used as a representation was interesting and insightful.

Fun activites with everyone attempting to sit down, it was nice to finally look at the covers, and of course, Little Women is a great movie!  I also liked the parralelism activities, I thought it was interesting.

I liked doing activities that normally we do not do, such as watching Little Women and going outside for that circle thing. I think it's a great idea to try to do something different every day.

I loved watching Little Women. It is a VERY good movie.  Mr. O'Leary was very thoughtful to let us see it because we are going on a field trip to Louisa May Alcott's house.

I really enjoyed going outside on that windy day and giving compliments and trying to walk while sitting down. I think it is really good for our class to do different things like that and mix up our activities since we do a lot of the same stuff. I also liked the activity where we found a natural object and came up with a natural truth from it. That opened my eyes to a lot.

I really enjoyed the activited that we did outside this week. They were a fun and new way to get to know the class. This is a class that is based on trust. If we don't trust each other, than we will be less likely to share our ideas for fear of ridicule. The 'sitting' game specifically really helped to buid trust. We had to trust that the person behind us was going to be there when we sat down. I hope that we can do more activities like this in the future.

I really feel that the nature activity went extremely well. We each brought a piece of nature in and explained its truth on earth. I think that at first we didn't have much to say about anything but as we heard ideas from other people, we generated our own individual inspirations and it became a very lively discussion. I was really impressed with Sam Bond in this discussion because she was stuck, but then her mind gave her a lead and she followed it and came up with a very trancendental perspective, which was the purpose of the activity.

I think that the variety of activities that we did in class went well and made the class interesting.  I liked the Respect Circle a lot, and the movie and the nature activity were fun as well.  Overall, I thought that it was a very interesting week.

I think the sharing of our natural objects went very well this week. Although some kids thought it was long, I began to understand the assignment more and more as the sharing went on. I began to see meanings in everything I looked at around the classroom. It was great.

I thought that the natural object presentations were a great way to break away from the standard-issue pithy quote assignments. It added some needed variety but still had us discussing important English ideas.

i thought that the trust/ compliment activity outside was not only fun, but good for the overall atmosphere in class. i don't think that we as classmates tell each other how great we are enough and this was an excellent oppurtunity to do that.

One thing that went well for me in class this week was the 'sitting in a circle' challenge that we did outside. I think that it helped me realize how important teamwork and respect are in our class, and how they still need some work to be perfected.

Parallelism, I feel I understand it much better

The group activity we did outside last week was tons of fun.  It was really nice to compliment newcomers and make them feel welcome in the Honors English program, but the team building circle activity was also great.  I would have liked to finish the group exercise, but we couldn't.  Maybe some other day we can revisit that.

The nature activity went well this week. It was good to mix up the week with something different. It was fun to see each other's different objects and what they symbolized. It was also interesting to try and guess what they might stand for.

The respect activity and the parallelism work went well for me.

This week as a whole went really well. Watching Little Women was a good break and will be helpful for the field trip. The praise circle was great. It gave us a chance to say things we respected about others that we wouldn't have normally told them. I really enjoyed the nature activity. It was really interesting to hear everyone's ideas. I really liked it once people were raising their hands to add their ideas. I liked hearing three or four truths from one object.

Without a doubt, the outside circle activity was the most successful thing we did. It was a lot of fun, and a great change in the regular pattern of school, not just in English class but in all of my classes. There was also the natural object activity which got us all thinking like true transcendentalists and the video 'Little Women!!' Altogether it was a very fun week.

Although I enjoyed the natural object presentations, I thought that they ran a bit long. It would have been better if they had been a little shorter.

I can't think of anything that could have gone better this week.

I had a really good week. Not much could have gone better.

I think my homework could have gone better this week. I was really busy and i think i could have scheduled my time better and organized myself and i would have problems with forgetting and losing things. For example, i forgot my firdays homework, along with the book the day before. I had to barrow the book from someone else. Also, in the past few weeks i haven't been doing the survey because i haven't been going on the computer and i dont have the internet at my dad's house. This is due to misplanning on my part and I know i seem anti-social and rude, but i am just sloppy, which is something i can fix. Better it be my habit rather than my attitude.

I think that the nature object activity could have been shorter. It was very interesting at the beginning, but as we got near the end the unversal truths all started to seem the same and I became much less intested. I think that the idea of two smaller groups is a good idea.

I think the sharing of covers could have gone better this week. I really enjoy seeing what everyone has for a cover and hearing what they meant by it, but many people seemed to not really have been paying attention when trying to guess what they meant.

I thought it was unfair that two nights in a row we had to read and write pithy quotes (which doesn't bother me THAT much), and that when we got to class we didn't even mention them (which DOES bother me-we spent all that time reading and writing for no reason). I'm NOT asking to discuss pithy quotes every single day, but it would be a lot more fair if there were some reason for us to spend all that time on homework.

I thought that the parallelism quiz was very hard. Maybe that is because I was spaced out, but there was no real preparation for the quiz, it seemed more to be based on instinct. I guess I was just taking the quiz in too literal a manner, rather than being elastic and moving the sentences around more.

I thought the large group discussions could have gone better so far as voicing our opinions goes. We were disrespectful of each other during these discussions.

I thought the parallelism unit could have gone a little bit better for me personally, since I did not do so well on them.  Also the quiz would have been nice to know about, because I would have looked over the previous worksheets to study for the quiz.

It would be helpful for me if the weekly survey were available earlier in the weekend. It the email attatchment were sent Friday afternoon, or the link was always available on the website, it would make it easier to get it done with plenty of time to spare.

Some discussions were a little bland or non-responsive, other than that good, except I feel like I am nothing better than watch, a certain somebody, all they do is ask me what is the time, what is the time..underappreciated thats all

The only problem I could find this week was the amount of out of turn talking and side conversations that were going on during class. Maybe it was because of all of the different activities we were doing, but I think that, once again, it is something that should be improved.

The parallelism exercise could have gone a little better. I still don't fully understand how to change certain types of sentences to make them parallel.

The sitting on everyone else's lap activity did not go well for me. I felt very uncomfortable doing it and felt it did not go well.

Uhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmm, perhaps the discussions of the covers?  Everyone started to get a little antsy.

We could have spent more time discussing our homework and pithys. I know that some people have felt this is repetative but it really helps me to think differently and more in depth about what we read.

We never got to finish the sitting circle thing!!!

Ben Freigner inspired me this week when he spoke about the cover for his summer project. The image that he found, and his description of how literature can always been seen two ways showed that he put a lot of thought into his cover. He inspired em to try to see literature form both sides, rather than just one.

Caroline inspired me this week because of her outgoing ambition to compliment! During the outdoor activity, she had at least one, and more often than not two, compliments for each person being analyzed. I tried to think of things for everyone, and nearly did, but missed one person. This example of Caroline shows us how thougthful and positive she is, which is very admirable.

I was inspired by Ben Frehner. He got so riled up by  our nature activity that he was willing to look at a large rotting tree from a whole new perspective and lug it up to the English classroom. What inspiration! What resolve!

I was inspired this week by everyone in the class. When we found natural truths from  objects outside every person came up with something that was deep and was truthful. I learned about about natural truths and about how everyone can see things differently and be correct.

Lauren Houlihan impressed me this week with her undying enthusiam for the subject. I love Lauren's honesty, she is always great for a reality check, she is down to earth so therefore she is able to look at literature in a very objective way.  I appreciate this since it is easy to get off on irrelevant discussion when it comes to English.  Thanks Lauren!

Lila really impressed me this week. Her cover for her summer work was amazing and opened my eyes to a new perspective. She is also always respectful to the people in class. Whenever she disagrees with someone she manages to be straightforward but polite about it, which i admire very much.

Lila's cover was amazing, I knew she was an artist but that was...wow, and Zach was pretty courageous

Nathan inspired this week when he brought in a geode as his natural object that represented a universal truth. I thought that this was a perfect example of how Nature can reveal truths about life, and he drew great connections from the seemingly simple rock. Nice job, Nathan!  Also, I must mention that when we were presenting our book covers and we went back to look at Charlie Beyer's, I was yet again astounded by his exemplary connections and unrivaled cover idea. This spectacular stroke of genius is the epitome of the perfect English metaphor. I now have an almost worshipful respect for Charlie. I think his ideas will truly go down in the annals of English history, and we can all look to him as an example of someone who is, truly, legendary.

Nathan Potter really impressed me this week. I noticed that during the nature activity he really understood what was going on and when asked to talk about his item, he kept cool and thought of the most amazing connections. I really enjoy listen to his ideas because they are always full of amazing depth.

Ryan Fotter inspired me.He is able to make jokes and keep the class fun, but he also makes very deep and meaningful connections.

Sam Bond really impressed me this week. During the nature object activity Sam had water and she was having trouble finding a universal truth in it. She asked the group for help, and they gladly came to her aide. We moved on, and I thought that was the end of it, but at the end of the discussion Sam came back with a very original truth about water distorting what you see through it. The truth in it self was impressive, but I was more impressed with the fact that she had been thinking about it the whole time and didn't just give up when she couldn't think of anything.

Sam McIntire inspired me this past week. It is clear that he puts a lot of effort into his assignments and his work is also always very original. For example, this past week he brought in a tomato for the nature activity. This idea was very unique and is certainly one that I would have never thought to do. Also, he let me eat the tomato after we finished the activity which was very nice.

Sam McIntyre gave me great insight this week during our discussion of universal truths from the natural objects we brought in.  I became intrigued when he gave us his interpretation of the cherry tomato he brought in.  He thought that when the tomato turned from green to red it symbolized the loss of innocence.  I thought that was a really cool way to manipulate the tomato for its universal truth.

Shannon Peters impressed me this week because she was so positive and respectful.  In the Respect Circle she always had something nice to say about everyone, and in the nature/universal truth activity she was very insightful and she always had great ideas.  Good Job!

Zach impressed me this week because he brought in two 'natural objects': the pumpkin and the large stick. He also made good transcendental connections, one in particular with the pumpkin representing a human leaving the mother's womb. Not many people can talk about this with as much maturity as Zach showed. While the entire class laughed at his comment, he kept a straight face. Well done Zach!

Zach Levene impressed me this week in the nature activity. He brought in two objects rather than one, and really put a lot of thought into them. He wasn't afraid to share his ideas. I was also impressed by the way he was able to relate the stick to his grandmother's life. I found that really interesting and knew he put a lot of thought into it.

Zach Levene inspired me this week during the natural objects activity. He brought in two objects that he had clearly thought about a lot, because he had good ideas about both of them. He was also able to find meaning in other people's objects, which I had a lot of trouble with.

Zach really inspired me this week when he brought in two objects from nature. he took the extra effort, and went above and beyond.
